Impact
The numbers, and how we got them.
Every figure on this site is stored once, defined in plain language, and dated. If a number here cannot be explained, it should not be here.
- Raised since 2020
- $2,500+
- Gross funds raised through grants, awards and individual donations since 2020, used for materials, tooling and delivery. MintBox is a nonprofit: boxes are donated, not sold. Early fundraising included a 2021 stall at the Union Square Greenmarket.

- Boxes donated
- 2,000+
- Every MintBox physically built and donated to a person or partner organization since 2020. The total through August 2023 (about 200) is documented on the old site; the figure of more than 2,000 through 2026 was reported and re-confirmed by the team in 2026; the St. Clement's Food Kitchen partnership alone accounts for about 400 of them. Year-by-year records for 2024 to 2026 are still being reconciled. Boxes built but still in storage are excluded.

- EDU kits donated
- 75
- Baby Sprout EDU boxes donated to partner classrooms and shelters. Of these, 50 went to four Covenant House shelters in August 2023 and 25 to Avenues Lower School classes. The old EDU and Covenant House pages showed these two figures side by side without explaining that one is a subset of the other.

- Self-watering planters built
- 3
- Auto-Watering Planters designed and built to order. One is installed and in use at the Hudson Guild Fulton Senior Center; the remaining two were built as prototypes during development.
- As of 2023-08-31
- Partner organizations
- 3
- Organisations with an ongoing relationship that has produced at least one delivery: Hudson Guild, Covenant House, and Avenues. Organisations in conversation are not counted.
- As of 2023-08-31
- Students reached
- 120
- Students who took part in a Baby Sprout EDU lesson led or co-led by MintBox. Counts individual students, not classroom visits. An earlier partner page claimed 5,000 people reached; that figure could not be reconciled with any record and has been removed.

- Boroughs where MintBox has delivered kits or a planter in person: Manhattan and the Bronx.
- As of 2023-08-31
- Grants and awards
- 3
- The Avenues Seedbank Grant, the Lawrenceville Welles Award, and recognition through the Avenues Mastery Learning System.

What a kit is worth
Supermarket herbs are sold in bunches you cannot finish before they wilt. A kit replaces that, week after week. Change any assumption below — the model is fully in your hands.
What that comes to
- Saved per household, per year
- $363
- Saved across all households, per year
- $725,920
- Kit pays for itself in
- 3 weeks
- Produce not thrown away, per year
- 2,621 kg
This is a model, not a measurement. It multiplies the assumptions above; it does not track real receipts. Every input is editable so you can check it against your own prices.

Methodology
How each number on this site is counted, what it excludes, and when it was last checked.
Every figure on this site is stored once, with a definition and the date it was last checked. Counts are of physical units we built and handed over, not of people who saw a presentation. Where a number could be read two ways, the definition says which reading we use. Figures were last reconciled during the 2026 site rebuild against records from 2020 to 2023; totals for 2024 onward have not yet been added.
Known gap
These totals cover 2020 through August 2023. Deliveries made from 2024 onward are not yet reflected. Rather than estimate, we have left them out until the records are reconciled.
